Harwich Park Run Photos 17.12.2022

Hi everyone. Well done for taking part in another cold Saturday morning Park Run through Dovercourt park. A real pleasure meeting some of you and an even greater pleasure to hear some really kind words from last week’s photos. Someone (sorry I’m terrible with names!) even popped over to take a selfie with me at the start, which was lovely.

The below gallery shows the low-res jpeg images from the event, which are good enough quality to use online and can be downloaded by right clicking (or long-pressing, on mobile) on the image and hitting “save image”. I welcome you to share these images with your friends, on social media, or wherever you feel like. They’re completely free to use and I would love it if you could share them on Instagram or facebook and tag me in your posts (I just ask that they should not be edited, cannot used for commercial purposes, or have their watermark removed). Once you have had a chance to look through the gallery below, I would really appreciate it if you could have a scroll through the rest of my portfolio.

If anyone is interested in the camera setup for these photos, or has a general interest in photography, this section is for you! We go into a little detail about my Canon R6 with 70-200mm lens and settings used throughout the shoot.

This week was a little tougher for photos because we had very bright sunlight in your faces at the start of the event, and very bright sunlight behind you on the way back to the park from the seafront. This means your faces and bodies are well-lit at the start, but covered in shadows towards the end. Personally, I like the shadowy contrasty look for sports photography, but I did have to boost some of the shadows in some pics in Lightroom, so we could see your faces.

The photos were taken at the widest aperture on the lens of f/2.8 (apart from a few group shots on the way back where I tested at f/4). The ISO was around ISO 200 for the majority of the morning and shutter speeds sitting around 1/2000s. The Canon R6 and EF 70-200 Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens behaved as expected, but it was more difficult for the camera’s eye-tracking auto-focus when the sun was behind you on the return journey. I switched to single point af when it struggled, which worked fine; it’s nice to quickly toggle between those two settings.

I shot on high burst+ which is 12 frames per second. with the mechanical shutter (it can go to 20fps on an electronic shutter but electronic shutters can also introduce image distortion and weird artifacts). I took around 1,000 photos of all your lovely faces but at 12fps most of the images are similar, just with different facial expressions and body positions. I’ve culled that down to the 150 (approx.) in the gallery of, in my opinion, the best of the bunch!

Thanks again for checking out my photography page. I hope you all enjoy seeing the photos from these events and please make sure to say hello if you see me around Harwich and Dovercourt taking pics.
